HOW TO CHECK NON-RETURN VALVE CONDITION OF THE ALPHA LUBRICATORS
Have you noticed a difference between the theoretical cylinder oil consumption and the actual consumption on a main engine equipped with an Alpha Lubricator system?
One of the possible reasons may be leaking or defective non-return valves.
You can easily check whether the non-return valves are working properly or not by carrying out the simple test described below.
1. Main engine should be at stop condition
2. Remove outlet pipe of the only one cylinder’s alpha lubricator as seen on below picture
3. Remove plug connection of the relevant lubricator which outlet pipes already removed
4. Please note above will be applicable one cylinder only, outlet pipes and electrical plug connections will be remained connected for all other alpha lubricators.
5. Push the prelub button on the HMI panel and observe the outlet of the relevant lubricator. There should not be any leakage from the outlet of the lubricator. If any of non-return valve leaking, replace the non-return valve.
6. Below picture shows observed 3 pcs defective non return valves, while remaining 5 pcs seems intact.
7. After completing the test, connect outlet pipes and electrical plug and repeat the test for another cylinder until all lubricators are tested individually.
